Creative Commons

Short Definition
A licensing system that allows creators to share their work with varying levels of permissions. Creative Commons licenses enable people to use, modify, and distribute creative content while giving proper credit to the original creators.
Relevance
Creative Commons licenses promote sharing but can also risk cultural appropriation, particularly of Indigenous knowledge. However, through collaborative approaches and justice-led frameworks, these licenses can support responsible sharing while protecting community-owned cultural knowledge.
