lived experience

Short Definition
Knowledge and understanding gained through direct, personal involvement in specific situations or conditions, often used to validate the perspectives of marginalized groups in discussions of social justice, disability, or trauma.
Relevance
Lived experience reflects the real-world knowledge individuals hold, especially those from marginalized communities. Centering lived experience in tech design ensures that platforms and policies reflect the needs of diverse users, grounding tech in care and empathy rather than abstract, profit-driven goals.
