Tiohtià:ke

Short Definition
The original name for what is today known as Montréal, Quebec. In Kanien'kéha (the Mohawk language), Tiohtià:ke is a shortened version of the word, Teionihtiohtià:kon, meaning “a divided group” and likely refers to the Island of Montréal as a place of long-standing interaction and diplomacies between various First Nations.
