Indigenization

Short Definition
The process of incorporating Indigenous knowledge, values, and practices into systems, institutions, and policies. This approach seeks to acknowledge and integrate Indigenous perspectives in ways that promote equity and respect for their culture.
Relevance
Indigenization aims to embed Indigenous knowledge in mainstream systems but can face resistance. The challenge is truly reshaping institutions to reflect Indigenous values rather than merely making surface-level changes. A way forward is increasing collaboration with Indigenous communities, ensuring they lead the transformation of these systems.
