deaf culture

Short Definition
The social beliefs, behaviors, traditions, art, history, and language (primarily sign languages) shared by Deaf communities. Deaf culture emphasizes visual communication and a strong sense of identity within the Deaf community.
Relevance
Deaf culture is often overlooked or marginalized in tech and cultural spaces. The challenge is recognizing and respecting the unique traditions of Deaf communities, especially sign language. A way forward involves fully integrating Deaf cultural practices into design and production processes, creating environments where Deaf identity is celebrated.
