About
Make Techno Black Again (MTBA), launched in 2018 by HECHA / 做 and represented by artist and theorist DeForrest Brown, Jr. (Speaker Music), is a cultural initiative reclaiming techno’s Black origins in Detroit and the working-class Black experience. Through merchandise, collaborations with artists such as illustrator A. Qadim Haqq, and projects like Brown’s Stereomodernism, MTBA links the history of African-American struggle and creativity to the Afrofuturist mythos of techno. Profits directly support Detroit-based youth empowerment initiatives, positioning MTBA as both a celebration of Black cultural history and an investment in future Black creators.
