About
The IISAAK OLAM Foundation supports Indigenous leadership in creating and sustaining Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs). Through programs and collaborations, the Foundation advances the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, fosters resilient communities, promotes reconciliation, and develops innovative ways of reconnecting people with the environment. Its ultimate purpose is to build long-term capacity for IPCAs and educate Canadians about their significance. “IISAAK,” the highest law of the Nuu-chah-nulth constitution, means “to observe, appreciate, and act accordingly,” while “Olam” is Hebrew for “world” and “forever,” drawn from the ethic of Tikkun Olam—to repair and heal the world. Together, IISAAK OLAM means “respect the world forever,” reflecting the values of co-founders Eli Enns and Monica Shore.
