About
Anita Cameron is a longtime disability justice activist with over four decades of experience in community organizing and advocacy. Her work spans transportation equity, voting rights, emergency preparedness, and opposition to assisted suicide, always centring the voices of disabled people and communities of colour. A leader within ADAPT since the 1980s, she participated in landmark protests such as the Capitol Crawl and has been arrested more than 140 times for nonviolent civil disobedience. Beyond direct action, Cameron has served in advisory, training, and leadership roles across national and local organizations, shaping policy while mentoring new generations of activists. As a Black, AfroLatina, Choctaw, and disabled lesbian, she brings an intersectional lens to her work, advancing social justice across movements. Her activism, writing, and teaching continue to influence disability rights nationally and internationally.
