About
Anélia Victor is a Toronto-based mixed media textile artist whose work is rooted in Black and Queer histories, Africanfuturism, and Caribbean textile traditions. Self-taught, with a BA Honours in Communication Studies from York University, Victor reimagines past methods and discourses to chart new futures through texture, form, and material. Their practice is grounded in the act of re/membering—holding the body in the present while reflecting on ancestral connections and cultural memory.Working with both new and repurposed textiles, alongside natural plants, dyes, food matter, photographs, and found objects, Victor creates collages, sculptures, and immersive installations. Their art explores identity, herbalism, sustainability, and food access, weaving together personal narrative and collective story. By reviving overlooked or forgotten histories, Victor offers tactile visions of belonging, resilience, and possibility. They have received support from the Ontario Arts Council, Rising Youth, Platform A, and Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce.
