IPCA Knowledge Basket is a digital space created to honour, celebrate, and catalyze Indigenous-led conservation pathways in Canada, including Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs).

By providing access to Indigenous environmental practices and offering resources and guidance for working respectfully with Indigenous communities, the IPCA Knowledge Basket enhances tech literacy around Indigenous stewardship and environmental protocols. It allows the public and other conservation groups to learn directly from Indigenous knowledge systems, fostering respectful engagement and learning. Reducing Harm in New Media: The project centres Indigenous leadership in conservation, presenting Indigenous practices as essential to sustainable management. This provides a counter-narrative to colonial environmental approaches, reducing harm by ensuring Indigenous contributions are neither misrepresented nor erased, and promoting conservation practices rooted in Indigenous knowledge. Data & Knowledge Stewardship: Operating under Indigenous stewardship, the IPCA Knowledge Basket ensures that cultural and environmental knowledge remains within the control of Indigenous communities. This model of digital sovereignty allows Indigenous groups to define access terms, protecting traditional knowledge and making it accessible for future generations in a way that honours community-defined values and protocols.
