Join us on Wednesday, September 2 for a community mixer hosted by May Yu.

The Game Art Mixer is a game showcase and discussion targeted towards marginalized game developers and artists. Rooted in the belief that games are a legitimate and vital artistic medium, the mixer brings together developers and artists to share work, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful critique.

Participants are encouraged to bring a game to showcase, either their own or a personal favourite, to facilitate deeper discussion. Part book club, part critique; the discussions differ from existing game showcases by moving beyond traditional mechanical and experience-based discussions commonly found in regular game showcases. Each participant takes an active role in guiding their own discussion, creating a space where games are examined with the same rigour and curiosity applied to any other art form.

This seasonal gathering offers a welcoming space for equity deserving community members to connect, mingle, discuss your latest projects, and spark potential collaborations.

About the Host

May Yu is a queer Chinese Canadian New Media artist, whose work can only be found at the meta (and sometimes simply just)-physical intersection of art and technology. She investigates the human condition through a lens of techno-fanaticism and nostalgia; blurred by our desire for connection and a simplification of the current hyper-mediated world. Bouncing from medium to medium, she experiments in game development, physical computing, web based and networked art alongside hacking and repurpose retro technologies and aesthetics to program interactive experiences both through tangible and digital means. Her art tackles deeply personal themes of family and cultural identity along with personal meditations on the current climate of technological innovation.

Accessibility Information: We are located on the second floor of the building, which is accessible by two flights of stairs or an elevator. The front entrance has an automatic push door and is accessible by ramp or a short flight of stairs. Inside, all InterAccess facilities are on the same level, including a single-user accessible washroom.
